The tradition of gastronomy and hospitality in the Mugello is very old and dates back to the Middle Ages, when the many travelers who crossed the Apennines found refreshment in these lands. After 1300 Mugello experienced a period of remarkable development as an area of the Florentine Republic. The memorialize Morelli (1371-1444), originally from these lands, in his 14th century Chronicle gives this description of the beauty and products of Mugello: “And before you see in the plan of Mugello is better and more fruitful land that are in our Contado, where you will see two or three hits per year and each one abundant stuff! And hereafter there is a heap of perfect ground, and fava beans upon a great abundance of wheat and fodder, and of fruits and oil, and a great deal of wine is gathered there from, large amount of timber and chestnuts and so much livestock that is believed to provide Florence for the third part. Below comes out from Mugello large amount of cheese and much lamb cloth and many chickens and other fowl of crafts and similar game in great abundance.”
Locanda “Isole” was founded in 1985 by a family from Mugello, whose desire is to create a welcoming environment that becomes a meeting point for the locals. In November 2018 the structure passes into the hands of Claudio who, together with his partner Elena, decides to come across a wonderful project, born from love for nature, good food and family. The experience in the kitchen and the union of the team that has been collaborating for years at his side has allowed, in March 2019, to officially open the doors of his dream: that of the current ” Locanda delle Isole”.
