Art of wool was, among the major Florentine arts, the most important and powerful, surpassing in fame and wealth even the Arte of Mercatanti or Calimala. For beauty and finesse its products were famous all over the world then known. Thanks to its mercantile and industrial vocation, and to the high number of workers and factories, it contributed strongly to the wealth of the city.

“The Wool Art Museum” is located in the complex of the Wool Mill of Stia, in Casentino, restored after decades of neglect. A journey through the history of the art of wool from the beginnings of human civilization to the industrial revolution and the golden age of the Stia wool mill. A wonderful example of industrial archaeology, Today the building has revived no longer as a place of production but as a center of dissemination of the textile culture of this territory.
